Life For Teen Who Murdered Friend Over £30 Debt
Friday 22nd August 2014
A teenager from central London has been jailed for life for murdering his friend following a 'trivial' dispute over thirty pounds.
Nineteen year-old Yusef Al-Jaaf from Pimlico (pictured above) stabbed Basel Aghabra earlier this year.
Police were called by London Ambulance to a flat in Lilestone Street shortly before 1.10pm on Monday, 3rd February after reports of a stabbing.
There they found 19 year old Aghabra suffering multiple stab wounds to his torso. Paramedics tried but failed to save him.
Al-Jaaf later confessed to officers that he was at the address during
the murder, which surrounded a heated argument about the fact that Basel had lent Al-Jaaf £20 for breakfast but Al-Jaaf had then demanded another £10.
Al-Jaaf has been given a minimum 12 and a half year sentence after pleading guilty to murder.
Detective Inspector Jamie Stevenson said: "This was a brutal murder with
multiple stab wounds inflicted following what was a trivial dispute
over a small amount of money. A heated argument has quickly escalated
with tragic consequences. The only consolation to the family is that
Al-Jaaf has done the decent thing and pleaded guilty, sparing the family
the ordeal of a long and painful court case."
