Robert Ambridge, known on Twitter as Old Holborn, had received death threats following a series of offensive tweets which targetted Hillsborough victims, the Boston bombings and Jamie Bulger's murder.

Jake Newsome, 21, was sentenced to six weeks for posting an offensive comment about teacher Ann Maguire's death on Facebook. He wrote: "Personally, I'm glad that teacher got stabbed up. Feel sorry for the kid. He should have p***** on her too."

And Mr Ambridge phoned James O'Brien to insist that Mr Newsome should be allowed to make that kind of comment without being punished.
