London's Best Game Restaurants

Game 270x220.jpgWe decided it was time to take a walk on the wild side here at LBC. With it fast becoming a fashionable fat-busting option, exploring the best places to experience game meat seemed like a great idea. We’re no strangers to game in the UK, we’ve a long and illustrious history of it, so we’ve highlighted some of the capital’s best spots to enjoy this very British tradition.
And what’s not to like? It’s full of flavour, has fewer calories and, by its very nature, is as free range and wild as it gets. It’s becoming so popular that many are even considering swapping the humble turkey for a game bird come Christmas. If you’re still unsure, why not take the taste test at one of the following places?

Roast , Borough Market

Housed at the foodie Mecca of Borough Market, Roast does exactly what the name suggests. Fresh seasonal British ingredients are used as a matter of course and the gastronomic enthusiasm that spills from the staff is infectious. There really aren’t many better places to eat game – or anything else for that matter – in London.
Ash from Kennington couldn’t agree more. “Great food and not too expensive (in the scheme of things). Lovely setting (try and blag a window seat), and live jazz most Sundays too”.

Rules , Covent Garden

When it comes to game meat, Rules takes some beating. As one of London’s oldest (and best) restaurants, it oozes class, sophistication and foodie expertise. The staff are impeccably turned out, the ingredients are first rate and the cooking is exceptional. This is a real dining experience and a wonderful treat if you fancy spoiling yourself and a loved one. Chris from Tulse Hill has indulged and enjoyed every moment: “The relatively unostentatious facade belies the opulent interior which is reminiscent of some Victorian private gentleman's club.”

The Green , Clerkenwell Green

The gastro-pub feel of The Green makes for a very comfortable dining experience. In a previous incarnation it used to be one of chef Jean-Christophe Novelli’s restaurants and the tradition for great food seems to have extended to the new owners, too. It’s a great place to order up some game and we can heartily give the rabbit and venison a big thumbs-up.

Le Café Anglais , Bayswater

A popular dining spot enhanced immeasurably by an ostentatious, 1920s-inspired design that screams indulgence and lavishness. The daily roasts, however, are a true wonder at Le Café Anglais. As well as the tried-and-tested beef/chicken (also delicious, by the way), there’s the more exotic and unusual venison and mallard. Wonderful food, wonderful surroundings – this is an experience not to be missed.
