London's Best Irish Pubs
We all know that St Partrick's Day is more than just wearing silly green hats and drinking Guinness but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy doing those things. If you are going to head down the pub for a few to celebrate, make sure you try one of these fantastic Irish pubs. The Guinness with be tasty and the atmosphere exciting.
Auld Shillelagh , Stoke Newington - A favourite with the locals this pub often has it's punters in high spirits spilling out onto the street. Andrew from Finsbury Park say, 'The Shillelagh is an institution around these parts and well worth a visit. Don't be put off by the exterior; it's like the Tardis inside. It has very friendly locals, attentive staff and legendary Guinness.'
The Tipperary , Farringdon - This pub is over 400 years old, which makes it London’s most historic Irish pub. It was also the first pub outside of Ireland to serve Guinness which makes it the perfect setting to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Full of Irish charm and with a cosy decor you can't beat the atmosphere of this venue.
Filthy McNasty's , Angel - A bit off the beaten track but definitely worth a visit. The modest pub owners boast the 'second best' Guinness in London and won't welcome you with green shamrock hats and inflatable leprechauns. All you need to expect is a warm welcome and genuine punters. Mark from Highgate says, 'It's a labour of love to find this place, a bit off the urban track and so on, but if anything, that just makes it extra special. The people who are there, want to be at that particular pub, and to me, that makes it even more brilliant.'
The Harp , Covent Garden - Another popular Irish pub which serves a variety of succulent sausages as well as two varieties of Guinness. Richard from Balham says, 'Oil portraits cover the wall of the narrow bar giving it a real traditional feel'. Not only is the inside packed with a atmospheric charm but the outside of the pub is beautiful. 'This place should win awards for the outside, it’s difficult to miss and really appealing, the flowers are just amazing' as Anne from Welford puts it.
