London's best places for picnics
The sun is due to come out for at least two of our four-day weekend over Easter in London, so maybe it's an opportunity for your first alfresco meal of the year.
But in the credit crunch, what better way to enjoy the weather than to take your own picnic out to one of London's many parks.
But where should you go? As the Food and Drink show talks about picnics, LBC give you London's five best places for picnics.
Terrace Gardens, Richmond
Taking up the area of land between Richmond Hill and the River Thames, the views are wonderful - on a clear day, stretching as far as Windsor Castle - yet the Terrace Gardens never gets too crowded. It's a lovely, manicured park and with it's own toilets, it's ideal for an afternoon of fine food and drink.
Phoenix Gardens, Covent Garden
Central London isn't overly-blessed with green areas. Soho Square and Lincoln's Inn Fields are both nice, but can get crowded. So head to Phoenix Gardens, between Covent Garden and Charing Cross Road, a community garden rather than a public park. With a pond and a range of birds that regularly visit, it's a wonderful place for a bit of peace and quiet in the centre of town.
Riverside, London Bridge
You won't get a more dramatic spot for a bite to eat than on the steps of The Scoop on the South Bank by City Hall. You have Tower Bridge to your right, the Tower of London and Guerkin in front of you, while the Thames flows peacefully past. Put a blanket down and watch London in action.
Horniman Museum Park, Dulwich
The anthropological museum's collection of curiosities is definitely worth a visit, but for a picnic, nowhere in south London can match this great location for a picnic. The 16-acre gardens have wonderfully-manicured flowerbeds and lawns as well as a lovely conservatory, while the bandstand is a magnificent spot for a little alfresco dining.
Primrose Hill, Chalk Farm
With views over the whole of London and regular opportunities for celeb-spotting, Primrose Hill is a classic choice for a London picnic. A short stroll away is Regent's Park open-air theatre, while there are shops and cafes aplenty, so if it rains, you've got lots of choices for where to dash to.
