London's Most Romantic Bars
Whether it is a first date or your 60th wedding anniversary, a romantic setting can aid a night out, transforming it into an evening to remember. Scattered across London there are many places that can make you feel a little flushed with love. The romantic city, steeped in history and with its varied boroughs, almost every corner hides a lovers den waiting to be discovered.
The Oxo Tower, South Bank
Nothing says 'I love you' like a romantic walk along the Thames, and finishing it off with a cocktail of two at The Oxo Tower bar will really place the cherry on the top of a perfect evening. A mix of live jazz music, panoramic views and reassuringly expensive drinks, it really will show your guest that you care. The Oxo Tower bar is actually part of the brassiere and is a great experience that will blow you away with fantastic service and an intimate atmosphere. Cocktails made to taste start from £7 and there is also an extensive wine list. Champagne starts at £24.50 and if you’re feeling particularly flushed, for £150 you can grab yourself a bottle of Krug Grand Cuvee.
The East Room, Shoreditch
It's important to mention when talking about The East Room that it is a private members club and just to enter you will have to pay a yearly membership fee of £350. This will of course make you an exclusive member, entitling you to access to this venue and various other hidden bars and restaurants across London. The East Room in Shoreditch is more than just a bar to its members, it's a second home. With large soft leather sofas and beautifully made cocktails, it’s an unpretentious and welcoming club that can give a night out with the exclusivity of a reliable clientele and personal service. You can enjoy a drink or two (and you'll probably want two after the first sip of an Anejo Highball1) in a relaxed manner. Matt Skinner, writer and presenter of everything worth knowing about wine has put together their wine list which will have you lingering at the bar until the early hours. A perfect setting for cupid to work his magic in our opinion, The East Room is a must.
Gordon's Wine Bar, Embankment
A perfect setting can really create a romantic atmosphere and at Gordon's Wine Bar, on Villiers Street near Embankment Station, you really will be spoilt. It’s a quaint little place with modern wooden layout and an extensive wine list as well as lots of little hidden places to sit so you can have an intimate drink or two. It is dimly lit and quite dark but in a good way that will possibly make you feel a little naughty. In short it's a candle-lit, underground, clandestine cave, full of wine and cheese and people who are clearly up to something - or at least that how it appears to us. You can’t go here and not be mischievous as you start imagining yourself in a dark and sexy film. As soon as you walk down the grotty, steep stairs you feel a bit impish and by the time you’ve ordered your wine, you’re feeling downright wayward.
Roxy Bar and Screen, Borough
Snuggling up on the sofa in the comfort of your own home is a perfectly acceptable romantic choice for any love-up couple but sometimes you need to make it a bit special. Why not take a trip down to Roxy Bar and Screen and catch a flick or too. This is no normal cinema; there is a fantastic selection of wines and cocktails to choose from as well big squishy sofas to get smoochy in. The atmosphere and service are efficient yet not too pushy, which can make all the difference if you’re planning a lingering evening. It's open pretty late too so you won't be turned out until you feel ready to head home.
The movies they show are a bonus here and you generally don't pay to watch them. They aren't your average blockbusters and quite often they show world and art films.
These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to romance in the city. If you know somewhere better and your willing to share your secrets with the LBC listeners then write us a review on welovelocal.com.
