Friday 23rd May 2014

A 39 year-old man's been jailed for life for murdering his ex-girlfriend in east London in what police are calling "a jealous rage."David Gikawa. Picture: Met Police

David Gikawa stabbed 29-year-old Linah Keza to death last July in her flat in Leyton.

Her two year old daughter was also in the flat at the time.

He's been sentenced to a minimum of 21 years for her murder.

The prosecution said during Gikawa's trial that the "systems in place" failed to prevent the death of Ms Keza, who had been in contact with both police and social services.

Five or six days before her death, Ms Keza made a statement in an application for a non-molestation order, describing his controlling behaviour and his verbal and physical abuse.

A neighbour, Gideon Bello, who tried to intervene when he heard Ms Keza screaming, was awarded 500 by the judge.
