Man Jailed for Murdering Parents in Croydon

A man has been jailed indefinitely for killing his parents in south London.

Daniel Dighton.jpgDaniel Dighton stabbed his father Barry and mother Elizabeth at the family home in south Croydon last September.

The 35 year old is described as being spoilt by his parents and living an "indolent life" at home.

The attack happened after a row about him being hungover. He is described as having flown into a rage and attacked his parents with two knives.

He stabbed 60 year old Elizabeth Dighton 28 times and then stabbed his 61 year old father four times as he tried to help her.

He was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

A doctor told the court that he may have been suffering from an acute stress reaction at the time.

He will be jailed for public protection for at least 15 years.
