Met Police Confiscate Machete at Brixton Event

Monday 4th August 2014

Police officers confiscate large machete at Brixton street event.

A Met Police Sargeant tweeted a picture of a machete confiscated over the weekend at a Brixton event. The image, which was tweeted by Sgt. Colin Reed, shows a police officer holding the knife which appears to be at least two feet in length.

The knife was collected at an annual community led festival called Brixton Splash which aims to highlight the diversity of the area. The event itself appears to have gone forward without incident and drew large crowds into the area.

It is unclear whether any arrests were made; however, carrying such a weapon is subject to a maximum penalty of four years in prison and a fine of 5,000 for an adult.
