David Cameron had uncontroversially claimed that there is much that is great about Britain. You’d have thought that he was trying to win friends and influence people. I asked what makes Britain great and the audience didn’t seem able to come up with much. Either they are most dissatisfied with their lot or my show was only being broadcast in France.
Somewhat deflated, I tried to engineer a battle of the sexes by referring to a recent study that found that men and women are quite dissimilar in what they can achieve in a three minute timed trial. What are men good for and what are women best at was the question I posed. The wall of silence that was met with suggests that either no-one listening had any opinion on the opposite sex, or had never met any of them.
The one thing that did seem to animate some callers was the NHS. It is apparently the only organisation on God’s earth that is beyond reproach. Every little thing it does is magic. There has never been, nor can it be conceived that there will ever be anything that is so perfect in every way.
It’s a strange world at night.
Everyone is Satisfied
