The prestigious honour cannot be entered - a panel of judges choose the category contenders and winner.

The winners were announced at an  awards lunch, which took place at Stationers’ Hall in central London.

It comes a week after LBC won three gold awards at the prestigious Radio Academy Awards.

In the BAFTAs of the radio world, LBC won the Special Award in recognition of our outstanding work in creating Call Clegg and Ask Boris.

The Mayor of London told us he was 'over the moon', saying: "I don't know who is coming on the line, I don't know what they are going to say.

"I have to respond, I have to come up with as best an answer as I can and I hope it makes good radio sometimes and also I hope it allows us to address some of the problems that Londoners have."

LBC's Senior Reporter also picked up two gold awards last night. Tom Swarbrick won National Journalist of the Year, as well as Best Community Programming for his excellent documentary 'Slavery On Our Streets'.
