Would you march against a war in Iran?

Posted by Nick Margerrison on January 29, 2012 at 04:53AM

Here's your text and tweets....

(IRAN)

Why don’t western countries set a good example to the rest of the world, and make them follow in their footsteps without the need of war? Doesn't war create hatred? How will other countries follow the West if there is hatred? Anon

I think most wars are about oil but I heard America is funding the opposition in Syria to stir up trouble. Adrian from Romford

Nick, would I march against the war in Iran? NO! Its a waste of time and politicians, ALWAYS Do What They Want! (Just like it was, in Iraq!) Anon

@lbc973 Shakespeare? he only came in useful when impressing one of my sons teachers that I vaguely remembered Henry V from my own school.

it is great to hear some balanced media coverage about Israel, how shamefully rare it is nowadays. No wars should be backed.

We should stop poking our noses into other peoples affairs and let them fight it out amongst themselves! Anon

Marching against a war in Iran would be pointless in terms of prevention. David Cameron has got the taste for / confidence for military action having gone to Libya. It is worth doing from a public expression and democratic point of view. Chris

Nick Margerrison, Lindsey Germain was referring to the fact that Iran is being a member of the Non nuclear proliferation treaty (NPT), which says Iran can possess nuclear technology. Israel on the other hand ARE NOT allowed nuclear technology. They lied to the world about building bombs, (Mordecai Vanunu a brave Israeli exposed it), stole US technology (Jewish Jonathon Pollard is doing life) and they refuse inspections of their Damona nuke site!!! The Boff

What about India /Pakistan nuclear friction? Anon

Is it 'good' for England or any other country to have nukes? Pointless in asking such a question! And the education question is far too complicated. It surely takes a combination of factors to construct good intelligence and character. Saimon from Clapham

Nick, did you just hear in the news that Iran is meeting to discuss stopping sales of oil to Europe because of the embargo? Reason enough for America and Europe to invade, I believe that we could be at the beginning of a very precarious situation. China and Russia, siding quietly with Iran, could end up boycotting the Olympics. A new Socialist President in France who is prepared to go to war with the financial services, oh yes, they are all here in London. England needs to act a bit like an ostrich right now and keep its head firmly below the parapet.

It's Jewish special interest groups that fund U.S. Senators and Presidential candidates with tons of money, so let these special interest groups fund Israel to deal with it,and I am sure the U.S. will help them. And the rest of us can look on.

We cant afford 2 look after the people here let these other countries sort out their own problems.stop all this overseas aid charity starts at home. Nick

Hi Nick - Fact Ahmadinejad did not say he would "wipe Israel of the map", bomb it-" check it out" - he wanted the map changed back to Palestine David - Harpenden

(RIOTS)

The troops should be on the streets as soon as possible to prevent riots. And I’d march to bomb Iran. James

You might welcome military involvement if your shop had been burnt to the ground with the Police eating popcorn whilst spectating from the sidelines. Wayne (Hackney)

Just untie our hands from the red tape that binds them, maybe then we can do our job effectively - to keep the streets safe. Then we wouldn't need the army on our streets. From Alex, a Teddington PC

Until they start to cause damage to property or life.

You need to differentiate between protesters and rioters. The Tottenham riots were violent, criminal acts, with no political purpose. However if troops were deployed against essentially peaceful protesters marching toward parliament it would be the end of the UK as a free country. At the same time I do feel troops need to be ready, even if hopefully never used.

Maximum force should be used at the first sign a riot has started. The softly softly approach will only let the situation get worse

I blame the teachers and the parents, youths need to be taught that if you want something, you need to work for it, not steal

Having now raised two sons to 16 and 18 respectively, the education they appear to have received is inline with my own, most of which remains personally irrelevant to me 30 odd years later. Essentials such as balancing a bank account against expenditure I only learnt after I left school. These skills are still not being taught to youngsters with Home economics.

Having worked in IT, lessons such as ICT are basically out of date before the kids even get taught it.

History, I can talk to my boys about WWII or ancient monarchs, but mention the Falklands and they know nothing, even though the Argentinean situation is still very relevant today.

Bring the education system out of 1973, make it relevant and bring it up to date before we criticise the apparently badly behaved switched off children and/or parents. The future prosperity of this country depends on it.

Failure in schools is down to the pupils, students don't co-operate anymore you. Can't discipline a child anymore. Kids haven't got interests anymore

All governments deliberately under-educate the population, because if everybody had a degree, who would want to do unskilled work? If you keep the masses stupid, you keep them controlled.

Email from James

Nothing mentioned will work for kids. We are the most capitalist country in Europe, we work the longest hours, and we have the longest commutes. This leads to parents not being at home and so with their kids they feel guilty and say "yes" to everything. We don't see half the problems in European countries that aren’t as capitalist as us.

Morning Nic ...I am born in August, that makes me youngest in a class starting in September, not oldest. Those born in September and October are one year older than me. R.
