The 2012 Olympics are on time and on budget according to the International Olympic Committee's Inspection Team which has completed a 3 day visit. They've defended the nine point three billion pounds being spent on the Games and said they're "very impressed" at the progress.
The Chancellor's told LBC the new top tax rate for high earners doesn't mark the end of new Labour. Alistair Darling's been defending his Budget which included record levels of borrowing over the next few years. He's also insisted his prediction of a swift return to growth is credible. The predictions are being dismissed by the opposition as a "fantasy". The Shadow Chancellor says the government's failed to offer a plan for tackling the true scale of the recession.George Osborne's also criticised the decision to raise taxes to 50% for high earners from next April.
