NUS President Should Resign Over Protests

LBC's been told the National Union of Students have a lot to answer for, after protests over tuition fee rises in London turned violent.

Windows have been smashed at Millbank Tower and a number of students have managed to get inside.

The lobby has been vandalised with graffiti and a number of loose wires are hanging down from gashes in the ceiling.

Sticks and bottles have also been thrown and a one point a fire extinguisher was thrown off of the roof of the building onto the crowds below.

An estimated 50,000 students and lecturers are taking part in the protest.

Editor of Tory Bear Blog Harry Cole says the NUS President should now resign:

"He should have been working closely with the police, he should have been aware of what was going to happen at the protest and for him to be so woefully incompetent, there is no way in my view he can stay in his job."

Eleven people have been taken to hospital.

In a statement on it's website the NUS has condemned the violent actions of what it is describing as "rogue protestors" who have undermined an otherwise peaceful protest with NUS President Aaron Porter calling the scenes "despicable".
