Outrage At Playground Charge Plans

There are calls for Wandsworth council to scrap plans to charge children to use playgrounds.

It follows proposals to charge a weekend fee of £2.50 per child at Battersea Park adventure playground.

A petition has been set up against the move.

Val Shawcross - London Assembly Member for Lambeth & Southwark - says the authorioty should rethink the plan.

"This is a really dangerous precedent. It's hard enough to bring up kids in London at the moment. Every parent of young teenagers worries about them everyday. This is just the kind of withdrawal of service that would make life harder for kids and harder for parents. Don't do it Wandsworth."

The council has told LBC the adventure park is a day's activity which is expensive to run and there are other free playgrounds in Battersea Park
