Owner Runs Off After Dog Mauls Other Dog To Death

Tuesday 20th May 2014

Police are hunting for a dog owner who fled the scene when her dog mauled another dog to death in Wandsworth.

Yorkshire terrier Caro was being walked by its owner at 8:30am on Tuesday 6th May on Elmbourne Road near Tooting Common, when it was set upon by a Staffordshire bull terrier, being walked by a female owner.

The bull terrier bit Caro's neck and then shook it in the air before dropping it motionless to the ground.

Two joggers rushed to help, but Caro died immediately at the scene.

Following the attack the owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and her dog, which is described as ginger in colour, fled the scene.

The owner is described as black in appearance, aged between 35-45 with short dark hair and of a medium build. She was wearing a suit with a grey or black and white colour coat.

PC Mark Paajarvi of the Safer Parks Team, is appealing for the public's help in finding the dog and its owner.

He said "There is no excuse for ignorance when it comes to responsible dog ownership, and we ask the owner of the attacking dog to do the right thing and come forward and speak to us about what happened."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Safer Parks Team 07795637356; or email the team on WW-Saferparks@met.police.uk.
