It’s one of the most over-used, not to mention misunderstood, phrases in current parlance but I think that ‘political correctness’ probably does explain why I was reluctant to ask whether Pakistan was inherently corrupt this morning. I know I’m not racist but the question could perhaps be construed as such and it is this fear of being accused of something (regardless of whether you’re guilty) that explains behaviour described as ‘politically correct’.
But I was wrong. I should have weighed straight in and asked the question because it is a pertinent one in the wake of the allegations about cricket and it is about cultural differences that it would be daft to ignore. Thankfully, as is often the case, callers saved the day!
I can't bring myself to say it but.....political correctness!
