Paramedic Delivers Wife's Baby On Highway

Friday, 29th August 2014 15:40

An off-duty paramedic has delivered his wife's baby on a Chicago-area highway.

Daniel Lynch was taking his wife Elizabeth to hospital in Evanston, a town 12 miles (19km) north of downtown Chicago, when she went into labour in the early hours of Friday morning.

He pulled over and delivered the baby. By the time the police arrived, the couple and their newborn were just about to go to hospital.

It was a baby girl who weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces (3.9kg), the Chicago Tribune reported.

The newborn was called Mary Margaret.

They were both doing well when they arrived at Evanston hospital.
