Pay MPs £100,000, Says Nigel Farage

Tuesday 8th July 2014

Nigel Farage says MPs should be paid £100,000 - but only if powers are returned to Westminster from Brussels.

A rise from MPs' current salary of £67,060 to £100,000 would be a huge increase of almost 50%.

But the Ukip leader said Members of Parliament would deserve the same pay as a school headmaster if they were making all the laws of the country.

Speaking to Duncan Barkes last night, Mr Farage said: "I have no problem in paying MPs more” if Britain had a “sovereign Parliament that actually ran this country and was directly responsible for the rules and regulations that controlled our industries."

"Why don’t we say that if we paid MPs the same as the local headmaster of the local comprehensive that would be about right.

"It would be £90,000 to £100,000."
