Playground Charge Branded "Fun Tax"

A plan to charge £2.50 to use a council-run playground in Battersea has been branded a "fun tax".

Speaking in the commons  shadow local government secretary Caroline Flint criticised the proposals by Conservative-controlled Wandsworth council

Councillors claimed the fee was needed because half of the families enjoying Battersea Park  at weekends came from other parts of London - but council taxpayers foot the £200,000-a-year upkeep bill.
