Police Warn Against Revenge Attacks In Colchester
Friday 20th June 2014
Police in Essex are warning against revenge attacks after a Saudi Arabian student was murdered in Colchester.
31-year-old Nihad Almanea was stabbed 16 times on Tuesday morning.
Detectives are investigating the possibility she may have been targeted because she was wearing Muslim dress.
Police released CCTV footage of Ms Almanea's final movements, as she walked towards the footpath in Salary Brook trail.
A 52-year-old man arrested in connection with her death has now been "positively eliminated from inquiries", Essex Police said, and was last night released.
Police said the fact she was stabbed multiple times bore "obvious similarities" with the murder of James Attfield, a vulnerable man with brain damage, who died after being stabbed more than 100 times in a park in Colchester in March. The investigations, however, will remain separate.
