Labour MP Blames Brexit For Prisoners Escaping Prison

Is this the strangest thing that's been blamed on Brexit yet?

Appearing on Iain Dale's Brexit Briefing, Catherine West - the Labour MP for Hornsey and Wood Green - had a niggly exchange about whether the government was getting distracted from day to day business by the EU debate.

Calling it a "Brexit shambles", West said ministers' "minds were not on the day job.

"They're too worried about Brexit. We can't even keep prisoners in prison, they're escaping from prison."

Iain cut in: "Seriously though, what's that got to do with Brexit?"

"It's got to do with the fact that the government is not keeping its eye on the ball, it can't run a hospital. 28 trusts today are in special measures, we've got mental health in absolute crisis."

"Nothing to do with Brexit," Iain reminded her.

But West was sticking to her guns: "After seven years, it's a shambles and a mess."
