Muslim Caller Hangs Up After Maajid Nawaz Schools Him On The Quran
11 August 2017, 13:20 | Updated: 22 August 2017, 09:55
Abdul slammed the phone down on Maajid Nawaz after the pair became embroiled in a heated row over the readings of the Quran.
The caller originally rang to berate the LBC presenter for “always criticising Islam” - after Maajid pointed out the “uncomfortable truths” about grooming gangs in the UK.
The argument then moved on to whether the pair’s religion had “adapted and modernised” to reflect life in 2017.
“What’s the point,” Abdul argued. “You might as well throw the Quran out and say ‘I’m not a Muslim’, because if you’re not going to follow the book, don’t follow the book.”
He continued: “The Quran is the word of God, you can’t change the word of God because he only came down one time.”
Maajid didn’t buy that argument as he cited specific readings from the Quran.
He said: “I’m really glad I let you speak because by doing so you’re actually demonstrating the problem here.
“Which is somebody like you who is not prepared to shift at all from the literal reading of scripture.”

Maajid continued: “If you’re saying you don’t want to shift from scripture, the Quran says if your wives don’t obey you, beat them.
"What do you say about that?"
It was at that point Abdul hung up, a move Maajid really wasn’t surprised by.
“That happens every single time I pose questions like that,” he finished.
