Answer: There are two theories about candles on birthday cakes. When you blow out the candles on your birthday cakes, you make a wish. It used to be a prayer, and the smoke would carry your prayer, or your wish, up to heaven where god would be more likely to hear it.
The second theory us that there was a very rich German, who about three or four hundred years ago had a massive party and he wanted it to be the best birthday party ever. He came up with the idea of sticking candles on a cake and lighting them. His name was Ludvig Von Zinzendorf.
