For World Book Day a Top Ten was produced of the books the British would like to pass on to the next generation... and what a strange list it was. It doesn't say much for the British reading habits that it included the official 9/11 report and the jokey science book "Why don't penguins feet freeze?". Our own list of recommendations from LBC listeners was a lot more interesting. I promised I'd list as many of the titles as I could get down on the blog so here goes...
Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
The Winter Mantle - Elizabeth Chadwick
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
The Zero Trap - Paula Gosling
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
Catcher in the Rye - J D Salinger
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Ugly/Beyond Ugly - Comstance Briscoe
The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint Exupery
A much better selection I reckon. Worth googling them if you are not familiar with the titles.
As for the rest of the show - it was jammed again. Busy lines on the topics of body scanners, chip and bin and fatty chips. Check out the podcast if you missed it.
