Bounce those mice away

... and bring on British Summertime

The campaign to bring in Double British Summertime got a lot of support last night. The idea being that we jump ahead an hour so in the Summer we are two hours ahead. That way you get lighter evenings at the price of some dark mornings in the Winter. Good for tourism, good to cheer people up on long Summer evenings and crucially safer. RoSPA say there would be fewer deaths and serious injuries from accidents. From 1968-71 we stayed on Summertime in the Winter and the evidence is that it was much safer overall. There were more accidents in the dark mornings in the depths of Winter but that was outweighed by far fewer accidents in the afternoons and evenings. Not everybody remembers it that way however, judging by the calls last night. It is only a campaign, but it does have backing from some politicians ... so who knows?

The other hot topics of the night were John Lewis - and their 8 week wage bonus. Employees and shoppers heaped praise on the company - maybe this partnership things is a good idea. Are you worried about 800 job cuts on the tube? No, it seems. There are hardly any staff around anyway so few of us would notice...  I guess we will find out. And a lady who spotted mice at the theatre (no, she didn't go to The Mousetrap) wanted to know what to do. One man recommended sheets of Bounce. Have a search on the internet. Apparently there are thousands of uses for it.
