A wide variety of topics last night, from Unions to Ugg Boots, but the one that caught on was the Bleep Test. With the Chief Medical Officer wanting pupils to undergo a compulsory fitness test, I wondered what this bleep test involved and whether it was fair to test everybody on an annual basis? Is that the job of schools? Turns out it's already happening in a lot of schools. It's a tough test that involves running across a hall or a room and increasing speed to keep up with the beeps. You get a score at the end of it and you can aim to beat it in future. But would it serve a useful purpose? It certainly would with the fit and competitive pupils. As for the less sporty and just plain fat and unfit children I'm not so sure. Plenty told me that they dread this test and find it humiliating to do in front of the class. So whether it would inspire children to improve is debatable. As for sending a letter home to the parents telling them their child is unfit... can they really not know this?
