Trouble ahead for MET

The police force has hit the headlines yet again, and for all the wrong reasons.

More trouble for the police force. While it’s easy to police-bash, I would certainly say that the force is much better now than it was 30 years ago. In my view the Tomlinson case is much more about one bad apple than a rotten barrel. But many feel – and perhaps rightly- that the police reaction was excessive; while others argue that since we’ve only seen a short clip on YouTube, we can’t possible take a fair view on the matter. The fact is that police brutality is an issue within the force, and one which needs to be addressed and dealt with.

It was interesting to get a few police officers calling in. One – fairly robust in his views – thought it was incredulous that police should be arrested at all, because they weren’t ‘normal’ members of the public. There was then a wave of calls as many of you objected to this particular officer and thought he sounded like exactly the kind of officer we thought we were getting away from.

Towards the end of the show I gave you a few pointers on what you could get up to this weekend if you were staying in the capital. Now, while I’m no opera fan, Giselle’s on at the Royal Opera House – and if I was an opera fan, I’d probably go and see it.

Have a lovely Easter.

Till next time,

Ken.
