What are we going to to about the Blackwall Tunnel?

Posted by Nick Ferrari on February 05, 2010 at 11:15AM

Do we really have to close one of the tunnels for THREE years?

The saints and the sinners? Over half of our MPs are going to have to repay £1.1 million of their second home expenses. Does this settle the matter for you or do you think they’ve got away with blue murder? In ten years’ time can you imagine something like this happening again? What’s going on with transport in London? A 24 hour strike by maintenance workers on the underground is underway today and from Sunday evening the Blackwall tunnel will be closed between 9pm and 5am Sunday to Friday for three years. THREE years?! It’s all part of replacing our Victorian infrastructure – much like the issue with Thames Water roadworks – but does it really have to take this long? Would it make more sense to shut the tunnel altogether but for a shorter period of time?

Swine flu has cost us billions and the number of people affected in the UK was vastly under Government predictions. Is this a good thing for you – would you rather they were cautious or has it led to scepticism for the next time we’re threatened by a pandemic? Good to hear MP Paul Flynn is investigating on behalf of the Council of Europe the role of pharmaceutical companies in the PR behind the pandemic. On Sky News’ 21st birthday, Sir Trevor McDonald discusses whether 24 hour news has been a good or bad thing for British journalism. Plus, ‘Mummy Mastermind’ as one pregnant mum took on one not pregnant lady to prove women’s minds don’t turn to mush when they’re expecting!

I’ll be back Monday morning from 7am.
