Is there an easy way to teach school children about the Holocaust?

Posted by Nick Ferrari on March 12, 2010 at 10:55AM

A history class on the Holocaust causes upset; and Foreign Secretary David Miliband joins Nick from Harrow.

Primary schoolchildren were reportedly in tears after they are told they will be removed from families as part of Holocaust 'game'. Is this really the right way to teach our children difficult lessons from the past? Would you be happy for your kids to be taught this way? How were you taught about the holocaust?

There have been several incidents recently which would lead us to believe that Britain is indeed broken. The two pensioners who died after their mobility scooter was set on fire; the suicide of Fiona Pilkington and the death of her daughter; and now the death of a 64-year-old man who was allegedly being targeted by gangs. When did society stop caring? Was it as far back as the end of the war, the eighties or more recently? Foreign Secretary David Miliband joined me on the line today as the campaign trail began in north west London.

A council in Surrey rejected an application to build a mosque on the site of a former school near the Royal Military Academy, in Sandhurst, but it's caused a storm in the local area with some accusing minority parties of jumping on the bandwagon. Was this about planning permission or were there deeper routed issues? Plus, the mums who breastfeed their kids until six-years-old. At what age did you stop breastfeeding your kids?
