Marmalade is toast

Emotional politicians and breakfast treats

Yes, we talked about global warming - or should I say climate change? And yes we talked about ID Cards. Many people objected to the idea, some didn't mind. They have nothing to hide. It's all very well aging nothing to hide, but is there a good reason for spending $4.7 billion on the scheme. Still no one can really explain how they are meant to help with crime. But the two topics that grabbed later listeners last night were Crying and Toast.

Alistair Campbell's "break down" on TV during an interview was greeted with scepticism and little sympathy. You spend so many years in the world of spin and there comes a point when people are just not going to buy it. One caller said he could be standing in front of you with an arm missing and blood pouring from the wound and you would still be wondering where the catch was. It was also pointed out that the reason New Labour went so big on spin and media control was because their party had suffered so much over many decades in Conservative leaning newspapers and felt that they had to redress the balance. Even Gordon Brown's tears in his interview with Piers Morgan were mistrusted.

And marmalade on toast will soon be a thing of the past. Under forty fives don't like it, and don't buy it. The price has been soaring and it's just not fashionable. I wondered what under 45's do have on toast. The answers were many and varied. Peanut butter and sliced boiled potatoes? No thanks. Marmite came out as the top choice.  Peanut butter and Nutella were close behind. I also learned about Eggy Bread (is that the same as French Toast)? I can't believe I've never tried and I'm going to give it a go.
