Rising Travel Prices: The Human Cost
As it is announced that tube and bus fares are set to rise by 7% next year and the Transport Secretary brands trains a "rich man's toy" due to high costs LBC 97.3 has been hearing stories of the impact it is having - not on businesses but families.Boris Johnson has confirmed he will stick to his formula of RPI inflation plus two percent to determine fares, in line with Transport for London's business plan.
It means a person currently paying £123.70 a month for a zone 1-3 travel card on the underground will see it increase by 8.66 to £132.36.
It comes at the same time as fuel prices continue to rise - the average price at the time this was written was 135.69p for unleaded while diesal will set you back 139.69p.
