Snow Forecast For London

Friday 11th January 2013

London is among the parts of the country where snow is forecast for this weekend.

The Highways Agency insists it is "well prepared" for winter conditions as temperatures are expected to drop.

Sarah Boundy from South Eastern trains has told us they are as ready as they can be to deal with severe weather conditions.

"In the South East the rail industry is always vulnerable to snow and ice because we use the third rail system," she explained.

"If snow and ice falls on the third rail, which is where trains draw their electrical power, we are wholly reliant on Network Rail clearing the snow and ice so we can run our train service."

David Roach, from London Luton airport, has told LBC 97.3's Nick Ferrari they are in regular contact with forecasters at the Met Office.

"We've not done too badly in recent years, but that's because we try and regularly test our own snow plan. But sometimes you can get freak weather and sometimes airports do get caught out."

Snow showers are forecast for Saturday and Sunday and the gritters are on standby.
