Every day, we read new stories about people dying from swine flu and the level of panic in London rises. But how big a killer is swine flu?

LBC has found the official statistics for the numbers that die from various illnesses to show that swine flu is not the major killer it is being made out to be.

150,000 die every year from cancer
90,000 die every year from heart disease
40,000 die every year from a stroke
12,000 die every year from ordinary flu
3,300 die every year in road accidents
31 people have died so far from swine flu
