Wednesday 13th August 2014
A drug gang with members as young as 14 operating in Pimlico have been sentenced.
Richard Wynter, 47
Jail terms of up to 3 years and 4 months were handed out to twenty-two members of the mixed-sex gang who pleaded guilty to supplying drugs.
The two youngest members, brothers aged 14 and 15, were given 2-year rehabilitation and supervision orders, plus 6-month curfews.
The bulk of the arrests were made on May 28th when 200 officers carried out dawn raids on the Churchill Gardens and Warwick estates in Pimlico, Westminster.
The gang, most of whom were teenagers, had reportedly plagued the area for several years. But after the brutal killing of a 16-year-old boy in Pimlico in January, town hall bosses launched a crackdown on gangs in the area.
Detective Inspector Philip Grindell said: “We have a clear mandate to reduce the drug activity and the violence that is associated with [it].”
“I would also like to personally thank the local community for supporting us with our efforts in disrupting and dismantling criminal activity in Westminster, this could not have been achieved without them.”
Two remaining members of the gang will be sentenced in August and September. One woman pleaded not-guilty.
