Telstar

TelstarI would like to apologise to the makers of this film.

It completely escaped my attention upon its limited cinema release a few months ago.  It was under-promoted and mis-marketed - with the trailer and poster giving the impression the movie was like a feature-length episode of Heartbeat.

In fact, this is a lively, often gritty biopic of legendary music producer Joe Meek with an engrossing central performance from Con O'Neill.  He embodies the charm and talent of the man, but also displays the paranoia and mental anguish which drove him to his downfall.

The supporting cast are excellent - even Ralf Little and James Corden - although I'm not sure about Kevin Spacey's English accent.  Nick Moran, one of the lads from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, displays an incredible skill behind the camera.

For me, 'Telstar' was a surprise and a delight.  The film deserves to find an audience on DVD.
