There is, however, something to be said for consensus or for themes that seem to be supported by a plurality of polls as opposed to one or two in isolation and even the most ardent Tory would struggle at the moment to be untroubled by apparent disappearance of their once massive lead.

he Meteorological Office has been stung by the criticisms that greeted their barbeque summer and mild winter predictions which were followed by a wash out and a deep freeze, respectively. The reason that they got it so completely wrong, they said, is that predicting the weather is hard. I am not making that up.
