The Perfect Toast
By Tom Molnar of Gail’s Bakery
Toast may seem like the easiest thing possible to make, but bakers will tell you there is far more to it than simply to put bread in a toaster. Different breads will give very different results as toast.
1) Choose the right bread. Naturally moist bread will always toast more nicely. When you are toasting bread, you are essentially drying it out, so moist bread will always toast better. Bear in mind that some mass-produced loaves have water added to them and they will turn mushy when toasted.
2) When toasting, use an old bread – one that’s no longer fresh enough to eat without toasting.
3) Moisten it with butter, olive oil or pesto before toasting. When toasted, this will melt into the bread, giving a nice crust on the outside, while leaving it moist on the inside.
4) Then simply put the slices in your toaster and go!
