The Time Traveler's Wife
I've never read Audrey Niffenegger's best-selling novel, but I can imagine this unconventional love story works much better on the printed page.
The fantasy element is a tough sell and the film doesn't do a great job of convincing the audience to buy it. Also, the central relationship between Henry (Eric Bana) and Clare (Rachel McAdams) often feels implausible. This is mainly down to Bana, who I've always considered a weak leading man.
But, within this overlong and, at times, rather slow movie, there are some delightful moments - particularly the appearance of the always-excellent Stephen Tobolowsky and all scenes featuring young newcomers Hailey and Tatum McCann. And the final act is genuinely gripping and moving.
