The Wolfman
Despite following every cliche of the genre, this is an entertaining, reasonably well-written horror film.
Visually, it's highly effective - with much of the action taking place at night and the daytime scenes shot in a muted colour scheme. The special effects and make-up are pretty impressive: Benicio del Toro's transformation into a werewolf is suitably horrific and director Joe Johnston is happy to show blood and guts spilling left, right and centre at every available opportunity.
The cast is solid, with Sir Anthony Hopkins delivering the stand-out performance. He brings a quiet menace and subtle mania to his character. (I wish he'd taken this approach when playing Hannibal Lecter - one of the least-understated screen villains of all time!)
