Tube Strikes Called Off
A series of Tube strikes planned by London Underground workers has been called off tonight following the reinstatement of a sacked driver
Members of the RMT union were due to stage a series of walkouts from next Monday evening, threatening travel chaos for passengers including tennis fans going to the Wimbledon championships.
But The union say the action has been called off after London Underground agreed to reinstate Arwyn Thomas, who yesterday won his employment tribunal claim of unfair dismissal.
Arwyn Thomas claimed his dismissal was linked to his trade union activities, which the tribunal found was not the case.
It concluded that London Underground was entilted to discipline the driver after he behaved in an abusive manner, but that the punishment was too harsh.
