WATCH: Racism Row On Tube Turns Violent
Tuesday 15th January 2013
The British Transport Police are hunting for a woman who was attacked in a violent confrontation on the Tube.
WARNING: Contains strong language and violence
A video, uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday, shows her having an increasingly aggravated argument with a man. The woman can then be heard insulting the man off-camera, calling him a "smelly Nigerian".
He then gets up and punches her before he's dragged away by other passengers.
The incident is believed to have taken place on Tuesday evening on the Northern Line between Old Street and Moorgate.
A BTP spokeswoman said: “On Saturday, 12 January a 20-year-old man from Lewisham voluntarily attended a London police station in connection with the incident and is helping officers with their enquiries.
“We still need to speak to the woman pictured in the images so we can try to establish exactly what took place. We continue to urge her or anyone who knows her, as well as any passengers who were on the train at the time, to come forward.”
A BTP spokesman said: “There is an allegation of abusive behaviour by the woman towards the man, but that doesn’t justify a violent response.
“The man and woman pictured in the images are seen arguing with each other on the video and we’re keen to speak to both of them to get their version of events.
“We urge them or anyone who knows them, as well as passengers who were on the train at the time, to come forward so we can begin to build a full picture of what exactly took place.”
