What are the "win a cruise" phone scams?

I often get phone calls with a recorded message saying “Congratulations, you may have won a cruise etc. To claim your prize, press nine.” But I never do. What happens if I do press nine? Are these offers genuine?

Answer: If you press 9, you get involved in a scam, where you are connected to a remote number where you are charged a minimum of around £50. Pressing the button is your permission to dial this number. It’s a scam that the Met is investigating.
