What is second in the food chain?
Question
This is from my 10-year-old son. We were watching a nature programme and a snake ate a crocodile, which seems to be the wrong way around. So I said to him, "What's number one on the food chain?" and he said to me "humans". Then he asked "What's number two on the food chain?" And I couldn't answer.
Carl, Bromley
Answer
Name: Emma, Hook

Answer: The food chain depends on where you are and it doesn't work like a league table like the questioner suggested. Humans might not necessarily be at the top of the food chain. For example, if you were in the north pole, the polar bear is probably top of the food chain. I'm in Hook and the food chain here is the sun, then grass and plants etc.
