** Definitive **
Name: Steve, Epsom
Qualification: I’m friends with Michel Roux Jr
Answer: Hash browns have a little bit of chopped onion in them and is fried, and the rosti is purely grated potato fried in hot oil.
(James O’Brien: But I’ve eaten at Michel’s restaurant La Gavroche and I’m fairly sure hash browns weren’t on the menu! Why did you talk to Michel about rostis and hash browns? Did you have some potato-based banter?)
