Where do roses seeds come from?

roses.jpgQuestion

Every year, daffodils flower in the same place, but some flowers don't, such as roses. So where do the seeds come from?
Shaun, Bishops Stortford

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: Heidi, Apsley
Qualification: Listened to my Nan
Answer: Some plants come back each year because they are perennials. Some plants don't come back each year because they are annuals and they complete their life span within one year. Perennials self-seed, meaning that they let their seeds out at the end of each year, whereas annuals don't.
(James O'Brien: I think that answers his question, but only proves that the question was stupid to begin with!)

** Definitive **
Name: Bob, Reading
Qualification: I make rosehip wine
Answer: I reckon he lives in suburbia, where most roses are controlled by grafting and cuttings etc. Most people buy a full rose, but rose seeds do exist. They come from the rosehip, which is often cut off before it gets eaten by a bird or other creature and then spread.
