Where does the phrase "having a field day" coming from?

Answer: In olden times, the Lord of the Manor would say "Next week, we're going to have a field day", where all the staff would have a day off and would go out shooting, hunting and other field sports. The villagers would be quite happy as well, as they would get free pheasants and rabbits.

Answer: I would hazard a guess that it's from your school days, where on a nice day, the teacher allowed you to take your books out to the school field.
