Where does rain go when it goes in my chimney?

Question

chimney.jpgOur fireplace is blocked off, but the chimney isn't closed. So where does the rain that comes into the chimney go? We don't have damp or any water coming into the living room.
Frank, Southport

Answer

** Definitive **
Name: John, Clapham
Qualification: Builder
Answer: Chimney flues are not built straight, they have a kink in them. Any water that makes it into the chimney would be caught up in the flue and soaked up by the dust and soot.
