Which mobile should I buy?
If you're in the market for a new mobile phone, the shops can be intimidating with so many similar-looking handsets on offer. The Gadget Guru gives you tips on which you should plump for.
Get hands on
The most important aspect is that you are happy with the phone you have and the only way you will get that is if you play about with it before buying. So before you decide, make sure you head down to your local shop and press some buttons!
The iPhone Conundrum
It is the phone that everyone is talking about, but should you join the growing iPhone revolution? Well, I have one and I love it. It's the nicest phone to use, surfing the web is a breeez, it's versatile and the App Store means you can do so much more with it than any other phone.
But it doesn't come cheap. Even on a contract, it is pricey. The battery doesn't last as long as I want it to, but that is largely because I use it so often! And the camera despite being improved, still isn't a patch on some rivals.
Multi-media Masters
We reviewed the Nokia N97 a few weeks ago, but no one liked it. It felt clucky, there were problems with the slider mechanism and the software was quite buggy. We gave it a big thumbs down. It felt a bit like it was rushed out to rival the iPhone 3GS and it feels that it’s not quite ready.
The HTC Hero, built on Google's impressive Android system, looks like a fine phone. It's well-built and works with flash (unlike the iPhone), but it's sluggish menu system does let it down. I haven’t had a play with the LG GD900 Crystal, although it does look pretty. It’s got a good camera on it and supports High-speed data.
Very Blackberry?
Blackberrys are some of the most popular mobile devices around, allowing you to receive your email wherever you are in a very simple way. If keeping in touch with your email is a key to what you want, the Blackberry may be for you.
Picture Perfect
Some of the latest phones have cameras that are as good quality as a standard compact. The latest Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung phones all have 8MP cameras, which put the iPhones 3MP to shame. If you are going to be taking a lot of photos, these might be the phones to consider.
