When you buy a bible, who gets the royalties? Who had the copyright in the first place?

Answer: It's out of print, so the publisher gets the whole lot. A certain time after the author's death, the copyright expires and the publisher receives all the money. Regarding the copyright, I don't think that existed in the year 50BC.
